Nationwide Test of the FCC’s Emergency Alert System

On Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 2:00 p.m., the Federal Communication Commission’s Emergency Alert System will perform a nationwide test.  This will only be a test.  The test will last for 30 seconds and will be coordinated across all broadcast media at the same time on the same day.

The purpose of the test is to assess the reliability and effectiveness of the National EAS as a public alert mechanism.  EAS participants (like OptiLink) currently participate in state-level monthly tests and local-level weekly tests, but this is the first testof the national messaging system.
