Viacom Channels May Be Interrupted on March 31, 2014

As of March 31, 2014, Viacom may no longer allow OptiLink to broadcast the following channels:

  • VH-1
  • VH-1 Classic
  • VH-1 Soul
  • MTV
  • MTV2
  • MTV Jams
  • MTVU
  • CMT
  • CMT Pure
  • Palladia
  • Nickelodeon
  • Nicktoons TV
  • Nick Jr.
  • Teen Nick
  • Nickelodeon 2 – West
  • Spike
  • Comedy Central
  • BET
  • TV Land
  • Tr3s

Viacom, who provides this block of channels, announced in early February that they would be significantly increasing their rates to OptiLink. OptiLink is a member of NCTC, which is a cable television cooperative through which we purchase the rights to carry cable programming. Viacom may not honor an extension of their services past their deadline of April 1st, 2014. This could potentially force all NCTC members to immediately cease carriage of their channels.

This does NOT mean that OptiLink will no longer carry Viacom programming. NCTC is actively working towards an agreement and are trying everything in their power to convince Viacom to be reasonable with its rate demands.

Unfortunately, they cannot negotiate to keep certain channels. It is strictly “take them all or take none of them.”

We are sorry for this inconvenience. We will keep you informed as the negotiations progress. Thank you for choosing OptiLink. We remain committed to providing quality television services at affordable rates!
