An Investment in Treatment Is an Investment in the Future

“The Conasauga River now sparkles downstream of the Dalton Utilities Land Application System facility the same way it does above Dalton.”
-- Harold Reheis, former Executive Director of the Georgia EPD
Dalton Utilities is strongly committed to conserving our region's limited natural resources and remaining good stewards of the environment. This commitment, along with our ongoing re-investment in our systems and operations, enables Dalton Utilities to keep pace with the region's growing wastewater needs while supporting the natural environment of the area, both present and future.
In keeping with our environmental and customer service commitments, Dalton Utilities recently completed construction or improvements to our wastewater facilities. These facilities -- the 9,200-acre Land Application System, two new wastewater treatment plants and a new state-of-the-art sludge processing facility – are making a positive environmental impact on the Conasauga River, while improving Dalton Utilities' ability to efficiently meet our customers' wastewater treatment requirements.
To keep in stride with our customers’ needs, we continue to leverage innovations in technology and processes to maintain a state-of-the-art wastewater operation. Our wastewater system serves over 11,000 customers, processing 30 to 40 million gallons of wastewater per day on average. Some 87 percent of this waste load is industrial. Current treatment capacity is 50 million gallons per day(MGD).
Since January 1997, Dalton Utilities has increased its investment in wastewater assets 90 percent, with capital expenditures approaching $110 million, resulting in a quantum improvement in operational performance.
Dalton Utilities award-winning wastewater treatment facilities have received both the Gold and Platinum Awards from the Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP) for excellence in operations. Additionally, we were named the 2005 Georgia Wastewater Collection System of the Year and won the 2005 GWPCA’s Best Operated Wastewater Plant award for our Riverbend Road plant.
