Electrical Reliability
Electrical Reliability Program Keeps Power Flowing
Dalton Utilities has invested $12.6 million over the past several years to ensure electrical reliability for our customers.
We have upgraded all of our substations, increased capacity, implemented a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) monitoring system, and launched an improved tree trimming program—all of which help to prevent power outages from disrupting your business.
The addition of SCADA provides Dalton Utilities with the current status of service at each of our substations. Additionally, SCADA is also used to provide the status of service to many of our major customers.
Distribution circuit breaker upgrades, capacity increases on transmission lines and substations, increased security at substations, and improvements to our distribution lines, capacitor banks and re-closers all add up to maximized reliability.
Tree Trimming and Vegetative Management
Tree limbs growing into power lines or falling across lines are the primary culprits in power outages. By removing this growth before it reaches the energized conductors, we greatly reduce the chances of power outages. The Utility’s vegetation management program has already decreased after-hours call outs by two-thirds to date. For our tree-pruning program, we use certified arborists who ensure that limbs are pruned properly to maintain the tree’s health while enabling Dalton Utilities to get the clearances we need to operate a reliable flow of electricity.
